The Utah District Export Council (DEC) is a volunteer organization comprised of Utah businesspeople appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce who contribute leadership and international trade expertise to complement the U.S. Commercial Service Utah’s export promotion efforts through counseling and mentoring Utah businesses and conducting trade education as well as community outreach. There are nearly 60 DECs across the United States.
A group of Utah DEC members recently participated in the National DEC Conference that took place in Washington D.C. in November 2009. Participants had an opportunity to hear from senior administration officials on trade promotion and policy issues, meet with representatives of their congressional delegations, and explore collaboration between regions on export promotion initiatives such as trade missions and educational seminars. As a result of such collaboration, DECs from the states of Utah, Idaho, and Montana are organizing a Mountain West Trade Mission to Mexico February 22-25, 2010 for interested companies from these states. (For details about the trade mission: http://www.buyusa.gov/utah/mexicotrademission.html).
As a part of its educational outreach to the Utah business community, the Utah DEC is sponsoring two major international business educational programs in Salt Lake City in 2010: AES Compliance Seminar in April; and Complying with U.S. Export Controls Seminar in September.
At the recent quarterly meeting of the Utah DEC, members honored two retiring members: Glen Lambert and Matt Alvarez, for their long-term commitment (nearly 40 years combined) to the success of the organization.
