EDCUTAH ANNOUNCES 2008-2009 RESULTS
Organization Reports Remarkable Performance in Tough Economic Times
(Salt Lake City, UT) – Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah) today announced results of the fiscal year ended June 30, 2009. In our 2008-09 year, more than 20 companies made the decision to come to or expand in Utah. These include eBay, Microsoft and GE Financial.
In the midst of the most profound economic recession in a generation, we have been successful in creating and retaining more than 5000 new jobs in Utah, with $1.4B in new capital investment and nearly 4.5M square feet of real estate absorbed. Over three years, more than 15,000 new jobs have been created.
“Utah continues to rank high in national rankings including such comments as ‘Best place to start a business’ and ‘Most dynamic economy,” said Jeff Edwards, president and CEO of EDCUtah. “EDCUtah reached an all time record high number of projects on our books, reaching nearly 300
by year end from companies that are considering Utah in their search for expansions and relocations. The number of site visits also reached an all time high at 157 during the year.”
EDCUtah maintains Jerry Fenn of Qwest as the Chairman of EDCUtah’s Board of Trustees. Also continuing their two years of service as officers on the EDCUtah Board are Rich Walje, Rocky Mountain Power, private sector vice president, Mayor Tom Dolan, Sandy City, public sector vice president and Jill Taylor, Key Bank, secretary/treasurer. Several board and executive committee member nominations were also voted on. Jonathan Butler, Parsons, Behle & Latimer, Steve Bogden, Coldwell Banker Commercial NRT, Jeff Larsen, Marsh USA, Steve Mecham, Utah Rural Telecomm Association, Maxine Turner, Cuisine Unlimited, Johathan Cohen, Coldwell Banker Relocation, Chris Nelson, Metropolitan Research Center/University of Utah, Bill D’Evelyn, Commerce CRG/Cushman Wakefield, Bryce Blanchard, NAI Utah, Peggy Larsen, Workers Compensation Fund, Commissioner Mike McKee, Uintah County, were inducted onto the Board of Trustees. Commissioner Louenda Downs, Davis County, Mark Bouchard, CB Richard Ellis, Peggy Larsen, Workers Compensation Fund, Glen Watkins, Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough, Chris Nelson, Metropolitan Research Center/University of Utah, were all appointed to EDCUtah’s Executive Committee.
Edwards attributes the organization’s 22 years of success to the support it receives from both its public and private partners, including its members and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
